On Saturday 25th of June 2011 evening, the Bangalore alumni chapter of VNIT Nagpur had a reunion and meet at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore). Visvesvaraya National Insititute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur is one of the first six Regional Engineering Colleges established in 1960. In 2007, VNIT got the status of an “Institute of National Importance”. There were participants starting from batch of 1970 to the current batch. Additionally, current students from the 2012 batch who were doing their internships in Bangalore during the meet were also present in the meet.
Professor N M Agrawal, faculty of Organization Behaviour and Human Resource Management at IIM Bangalore, is a VNIT alumnus of 1970 batch and was also present at the meet. Mr. Amit Dasgupta, Head Lean CoE at IBM, a VNIT alumnus of 1977 batch, was also present and felicitated Prof. Agrawal at the meet. Mr. Ashok Agarwala of 1977 batch of VNIT was a key factor in motivating for the meet. The meet was planned, organized and driven by Mr. Amol Dhakadey of VNIT batch 2000.
The agenda of the meet was to discuss the formation of association of Bangalore chapter of VNIT alumni. The association would provide an interface between students and alumni of VNIT. It will also enable alumni to work with the university for the benefit of students at their alma mater. There was great enthusiasm in alumni for this association and many volunteered for the same. Many alumni also donated for VCARE, which supports financially challenged merit students of VNIT to accomplish their dreams. Also, last Saturday of June was decided as the Annual Day for Bangalore VNIT alumni chapter meet every year.
Current students of VNIT shared their views and expectations from their alumni. They also shared their experience at Golden Jubilee meet that happened in December 2010 at VNIT Nagpur. The participants became nostalgic and shared their memories from their college days.
